Koh Samet is a small island in Rayong province, around 200 km Southeast of Bangkok, along the way to Trat province and the island of Koh Chang. Technically part of Khao Laem Ya - Koh Samet National Park, Koh Samet is a popular weekend getaway for Thais and foreigners living in Bangkok, so there are dozens of beach resorts, bars, and restaurants on nearly every beach, although visitors are allowed to camp if they wish to do so.
Quiet and relaxing on the weekdays, raucous and fun on the weekends, Koh Samet is, despite its proximity to Bangkok, a beautiful island with powdery white sand, generally great year round weather, and a variety of lodging options.
Koh Samet derives its name from the cajeput trees that grow on the island, called “samet” in Thai. In the past however, it was called Koh Kaew Phitsadan, the "Magic Crystal Island". It’s no surprise from that name that Koh Samet was chosen to be part of a national park. Visitors to Koh Samet looking for unspoiled beauty have to get away from the more developed beaches along the east coast, though even the most popular beaches are quite beautiful. Those looking for more relaxation can book rooms at the more upscale resorts on the west coast, which are spectacular places to watch sunsets.
Koh Samet is a small island around 200km south-east of Bangkok and just over 5 km off the coast of Rayong province. - Haad Sai Kheaw ( Sai Kheaw Beach) the visitors rather feel sound familiar with this name of beach because this beach's very popular for nightlife. Here's very fun and full of parties at night and people can call Haad Sai Kheaw's never sleep beach. Many activities to do such as swimming, view the Sunset and Sunrise ( if you can wake up very early) or have fun and drink at the pub, btw don't drink too much take care yourself and beware your wallet from the cheater.
- Aow Wong Dern ( Wong Dern bay) this place is very crowded same as Haad Sai Kheaw but here has little quiet area. If some visitors need to rest at the quiet and no crowded they can find the room at head of the bay but if someone love hilarious place they can go to center of the bay.
- Haad Klong Prao ( Klong Prao beach) the shape of this beach's look like semicircle and rather quiet. Good for the visitors who need to rest and listen the sound of wave and here's good for Sunset and Sunrise view. This Haad Klong prao 's very larg beach, people can play activities such as playing volleyball beach and spend time for bask.
- Aow Chor / Aow Tan thawan ( Chor bay / Tan thawan bay) 2 bays are abut, no crowded and has white sand beach good for the people who love to rest quietly.
- Aow Tubtim ( Tubtim bay) is a little bay and quiet.
- Aow Sang Tien ( San Tien bay) here's very preserve great natural, it's good for people who love quiet place and love to stay chillin at the beach.
- Aow Whai ( Whai bay) is located far from head of the Island but here's still be the natural, if the visitors like Aow Sang tien they also like this aow Whai too.
- Aow Khiw Nah Nok ( Khiw Nah Nok bay) has fine white sand, a prefect nature , no crowded and if the visitors would like to visit Sunset and Sunrise they can go to the view point at Aow Khiw Nah Nai it's distant fro,m Aow Khiw Nah Nok about 100 metre.
- Aow KaRung ( Karung bay) this bay's good for view the coral and visitor can play water or swim and if they can come here at November - December they'll meet alot of fisherman come for catch spanish mackerel because of alot of Spanish mackerel at the period time.
- Aow Noi Nah ( Noi Nah bay) although this' bay's very close to Haad Sai Kheaw but they're very different as the forest and the street pubs. This bay's very quiet and still be the perfect natural.
- Aow Loog Yone ( Loog Yone bay) this place's very clear and quiet it's good for chill in at the beach.
- Aow Phai ( Phai bay) it's nexe to Haad Sai kheaw, here's a beautiful view but if the visitors will come to swim at the sea please beware and play away from the red flag because of that area has a eddy.
- Aow Nuan ( Nuan bay) is a small bay and plainness, here's less for comfortable.
- Aow Kharm ( Kharm bay) is a stone bay and less of visitors too, almost of them who come here will come for pass to other bay.
Make sure that you wear mosquito repellent around dawn and dusk as it is possible to contract Dengue Fever on the island.
The best time of the year to visit Koh Samet is during the cool season between November and February when the weather is cooler and the seas are calmer.
Room rates are considerably lower than published the low season (March – October).
Koh Samet has no fresh water source; water must be brought in from the mainland or gathered from the rain; please used sparingly.
There are three ATMs on Koh Samet: one outside the 7-Eleven at the arrivals pier in Nadan, and two near the 7-Eleven just outside the national park entrance booth by Haad Sai Kaew.
Prices for goods such as mosquito repellent and rates for motorcycle rentals are slightly lower in Nadan, where passengers alight from mainland ferries.
